Default 02 Celica Shifter replacing 91-96 SC shifter?

Hey this thread was about a year old, but someone suggested that the 02 Celica Shifter w/perforated leather and overdrive button would be plug and play for the older SC shifters.

Did ne1 try this?

I tried my local toyota dealer and they weren't cooperative. I'm gonna have to head down there and find out in person.

Okay well...let's hope it works.

I was the one who mention the IDEA but I didnt, actully dont have a way to prove it... I just mentioned it since after looking at pictures, they look as if they MIGHT be compatible and so be able to switch them.. unfortunately, like you, I havent had luck finding a donor and I'm too broke to buy a brand new one at this moment... so the quest is still on..

I bought the parts and tried it just before I swapped in the 98-00 gated shifter. I ddnt like the way it turned out. It actually sat taller than the stock shifter. A longer dildomatic

The newer shifter will bolt right into the old location. The wiring is the tough part. A few new wires are required to be used with the new shifter ecu. It needs an input from a speed sensor for example. Sorry I dont remember the complete list off the top of my head
I posted some pics awhile back, its no writup though.
