Question '97 sc400 power steering problem

]This has me scratching my head feverishly.
My '97 sc400 is drinking down power steering fluid. It is actually burning it out of the exhaust. How I know that I am out of PS fluid is when my car doesn't smoke when I crank it up. My dad replaced the power steering pump under 5k miles ago when my step brother owned the car. What is going on?

Don't know how the SC400 works but is it possible the fluid is leaking into the vacuum line for the variable power steering thing and making its way into the combustion chamber?

Bad pump is all I can think of. Seems like the only way it could travel to inside the engine. Was the pump used?
