Default Oil filter, buying one at Lexus vs Toyota dealer . . . .

Just curious about this. I have a 1992 Lexus SC300 that I am a bit OCD about, it goes in the occasional car show every now and then. Never a judged event, but I do like to keep everything under the hood 100% stock. Car has a battery that says "Lexus" on it that the previous owner had the dealer change for pete's sake.

If I buy a filter(I know its part #90915-YZZD1) from a Toyota dealer, I know it comes in a red/white box, its black with grey lettering and says toyota on it. Its $5 from them.

Does the filter from the Lexus dealer say "Lexus" on it and have different markings/colorings???

Only reason I ask is that filter on the 2JZ motor mounts on the side of the motor is and is clearly visible. This is the standard I keep my engine bay to BTW.

It's the same from either Lexus or Toyota. YZZD1 or YZZG1.

The G1 is the updated version of D1. The filter from Lexus should be the exact same part number and will have Toyota on it.

We (Toyota dealer) buy those filters by the cases nearly every day and I can assure you that is a false statement. The D1 filter was superceded by the G1. If you find D1's it is old stock.

Well the wheels are different, and I switched all those fugly gold emblems to chrome ones. So its not really "STOCK"

Plus it gets driven a good bit, thus it remaining stock. I usually drive my truck around town and back and forth to work. But on long trips we always take the SC, its racked up 10,000 miles in my ownership of 2 years, almost all highway.

In case you never got an answer to this... I was searching for the same info, since most everything I found refers to the 90915-YZZD1 on the SC300. The consistent answer appears to be the 90915-YZZD3, based on several sources including Toyota's application chart for V8 (2UZFE) trucks:

http://www.toyota.com/toyota-owners-...2014_Final.pdf

Don't know if the 04152-YZZA4 ('07-12, 3URFBE) is also a potential match. Er, just looked it up and it isn't a can style filter.

Interestingly, the YZZD1 is listed as for 4-cyl and the YZZD3 for 6-cyl, but aftermarket blurs them together and even Toyota seems inconsistent with what engines they spec them for. YZZD3 is supposedly longer than YZZD1.

I work at Toyota and have been handed the d1 filter for service on the 2jz, I personally use the d3 on my cars as it holds slightly more oil. No issues. If you use the parts store guide for aftermarket filters, they suggest the d1 sized filter.

Lol at being so **** about factory junk. If filters weren't free for me, I'd use napa gold or wix on my 400 like I do on my jzgte.
