I would recommend sending your ECU out to get rebuilt. I had this task done a little while ago, and it has been one of the best investments.

EVER.

I'm also reading that all 98 lexus sc 400 owners if we have and ECU problem we can't just buy and ECU and slap it on If so it won't work because it does not belong to my car and I have to get it reflash or something like that.... Is this true?

Get a scanner foremost and check for codes, if none I'd do a simple spark and fuel check. Spark plug tester is cheap and easy, and for fuel just spray a little carb cleaner in throttle to see if it wants to run any better. Start with the basics and move forward.

A throttle body cleaner to be specific. Or part number 00289-2CC00 from your local Toyota/Lexus dealer. Funny enough It says "Carburetor Cleaner" on it.

........ I did a spark plug test and it shows four where not working and the other four are working fine.... So what you think the problem is.... Harness?

Where the four on the same head? Could be the ignition coil on that side if that's the case.

No it can't he has 8 individual coilpacks because he has a vvti motor.

which 4 it is would be good to know though it may help identify any wiring problems, makes me think the ecu may be loosing a cam sensor trigger or something sometimes the accessory belt cuts through those wires but the immobilizer still sounds likely.

I highly doubt it would be your harness. Start with basics and move forward. Looks like you already found out your capacitors were bad so wait till that comes in and go from there. It isn't a coincidence that 4 work and 4 don't. Find the common denominator. I can't say what it is because I'm not there to test components. Just trying to give you a plan of attack because it seems you're taking some stabs in the dark, probably due to frustration which we have all been there... Let us know what comes of the rebuilt ECU!
