I searched and mostly i'm finding the 98+ transmissions for the SC300 and SC400 are the same. And the 98 and up SC300/400 transmission is a 5-speed auto, right? So I wouldn't be able to replace it with A340E model from the 92-97 because that's a 4-speed auto, right? I keep finding conflicting info. Anyone know for sure?

Pretty sure only the SC400 got the 5 speed auto.

all sc300's use a 4 speed automatic.
the 98+ ones are more electronic in nature I want to say on the sc300 than 92-97 so you prob want a 98+ one.

sc400's without vvti got the 4 speed auto. sc400's with vvti got the 5 speed auto and a lower gear rear differential to make that auto play nice.

you cannot just use a 98+sc400 auto. you really need a 98+ sc300 auto trans to be plug and play. I don't think the older sc300 trans are the same as the vvti ones, but you may be able to use an IS300 vvti auto or something like that.

Thank you guys for your input. I appreciate it. Does anyone know what the transmission code is for the 98-00 SC300? I know the 92-97 sc300 uses the A340E. I would like to try to find all the cars using the same one as the 98-00 SC300 (like maybe the IS300) in order to source a used transmission. Thanks in advance.

Automatic Transmission (A340E): Torque Specification (1998 SC300). I just got this from tech stream. It is indeed the sames trans.

just do a search for used parts online they should list the correct interchanges if you put in 98 sc300.
