Default bought a 92 sc400 and having difficulties figuring out what the problem/problems is

To start off its a 92 sc400 with 236,xxx miles on it.

there are several things wrong with the car.
radio
passenger side window & outside handle
random stall
slight rpm surge
shift timing
lack of shifting
the list goes on. fortunately I know what is going on with most of these symptoms and know how to fix them, but theres a couple of things that have me baffled.

problem 1 and probably the biggest/worst
(today was a bit colder than most times I've started this car)
I started it up, ran great. I put it in drive and there was a slight lag. then when I gave it a little gas it seemed like the torque converter was slipping. I drive around a little bit and eventually the car stalled. I start it back up put it in drive and everything is great. shifts fine, and drives perfect.

problem 2
it feels like the car is shifting from 1st to 5th? after the first shift the rpms go from 1 to 2500 and seem to never shift again. I get to cruising speed (40-45) and it just stays steady at 2500 rpm's

I know it sounds crazy but I don't think theres anything mechanically wrong with the trans.
can someone enlighten me on the fundamentals of this tranny?

thanks in advance

Check the obvious stuff first for the stereo like fuse . Is it stock or after market? Hows your tranny oil level and oil in general? Miles on the tranny? Does your car have a cel? Post up alittle more info.

Moved to the performance and maintenance section..

Any check engine codes or TRAC light on?

More details please. The transmission might be slipping or has bad solenoids. I believe there is four and are easy to replace. It does not have to pulled to change these.

Radio could be fuse? Speakers pop, buzz, don't come on, only certain ones??? Possibly the factory amp. Check the trunk for water and moisture around the amplifier. By the spare tire on passenger side.

Window and handle are notorious for going out on these cars. Possibly plastic is broke on handle inside the door for handle not to work, the regulator possibly out for the actual window not to work.

Slight surge/buck could be 02 sensors, there are 4. Coils x 2? Ignitor x 2? vacuum leak? MAF? IACV? Plugs? Wires? throttle body needs to be cleaned?

thanks for all the info guys im just trying to figure out the trans problems. I made a video of the problems and im about to upload it.
the cel is on. its o2. not sure which one. also the cats have been "gutted" by previous owner. I have a cheap fix for the o2 situation.
the trac light is on I just figured it was because trac control was off.
the airbag light is on aswell.
trans fluid is at the proper level.

Like aformentioned, check fuses.

As for the regulator, check to see if the window is rubbing anything or getting restricted in movement. If just the outside handle doesn't work, that would be the plastic clip that connects your handle arm from the inside to the exterior.

Could be anything there. TPS, dirt TB, IACV, could be dirty fuel, or just needing a tune up.

I'm guessing this could be the o2 sensors. All 3 of them will probably need replacing. About 100 bucks each. Could also be maladjusted TPS.

Check your tranny fluid level, does it smell burnt? Could just be solenoids but with over 200k, it might not be that simple.

This sounds like the same issue causing all of these tranny issues. If the OD light is flashing, don't put your money on the issue being something like a TPS. Your trans probably needs some love. With 230k, who wouldn't ask?

Since your tranny has such high miles, things like the converter, clutch packs, and most definitely solenoids aren't out of the question.

You are right. It might have to do with California emissions...

o2's are not a problem. they'll be working fine tomorrow and I wont have to spend a dime. the lack of cat guts are making them read rich so im just gonna make some small L pipes to put in place of the o2 and then screw the o2 in the end of the L pipe. problem solved.
does anyone know where I can find a page with nothing but facts about this transmission? that's the issue.

It's an a340e.

Here http://www.lextreme.com/34x.html

Also is there a reason you aren't just doing a full tranny rebuild?

Rebuilding a transmission would run 1-2k. IDK about the OP, but I would at least hesitate before undergoing that.
