I dont know a lot about exhaust systems, mostly the ones that dont rust out are made from stainless steel. I am wandering, if a guy wanted to go with a light weight single or dual exhaust, what would be the best way to go? And how much weight is there to save.

I replaced my entire stock sc300 exhaust. For my catback i went with a 3" single custom made mandrel bent straight pipe exhaust with a tip welded on. And i replaced my midpipe with a SS 3" catless midpipe.

So basically i deleted my cat, both resonators, both mufflers and an entire exhaust side from going single.

Definitly lost some weight on it, i dont have exact numbers but i was meaning to get some weight digits.

So basicaly in the end i have a lighter exhaust with absolutely no restrictions and cost me right about 300$ and sounds amazing (love straight pipe exhausts)

Go to your local exhaust shops and gets some quotes

The proverbial can of worms.

Material-wise, stainless is pricey compared to mild but reasonably easy to weld at thin gauges so IMO the best option for lightweight value wise. Figure $600 to $1000 after labor costs depending on 3" vs 3.5" vs 4" and mandrel bends. This would be without mufflers if weigh loss is a priority. Figure ~20 pounds for the whole system if thin enough.

If you're big ballin, there are titanium options but good luck finding someone that will weld that properly and price is incredible at that point. I won't even throw a number but figure at least triple what a stainless setup will cost. They weigh right around 10 pounds for a COMPLETE exhaust so they're super light.

Aluminum is also an option but not many recommend it because durability is an issue on lowered vehicles. Fairly difficult to weld at thin gauges.

I did stainless dp and mid-pipe than thick gauged aluminum tube. The aluminum tube I found was much cheaper the ss which I thought was extremely weird. Might have to do with weight. I paid 135 shipped for 14ft of 4" 11gauge aluminum tube vs almost tripple that for ss. But like Intimazy has stated its not the best for slammed cars. I have only complete the Y section of the aluminum and it doesn't even weigh about a quarter of what the dp and mid-pipe weigh.

forgot to mention I'm using dual aluminum race mufflers no resonator yet..

Seems like a larger single would be lighter than duals. Im not concerned about the look.

I'm running a Cat-Back straight pipe with stainless steel piping 2.25" and 4" stainless tips. Total came out to be right around 100$ for parts. Labor was 220 to get it all welded, and bent.

I am very happy with the results, and it looks very good. It has no mufflers, and no resonators.
