So if I drive my 99 SC400 for more than 15 minutes it will ping really bad when i turn off the car. I tracked the noise down to the exhaust. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side Cat or maybe heat-shield.

I know metal has to cool down and what not, but this is pretty loud IMO. I just changed all the fluids, spark plugs since I just bought the car last week.

BTW... The car runs and drives great and does not make this noise while the engine is on. Thank You.

that is the sound of metal contracting (one bolted part sliding against another most likely, which is why it pops as pressure builds up and relieves) after its heat load has been removed.

if you want to reduce this noise, get rid of your cats, they get very hot and from what you're describing could be the source of that noise for you. or get some high flow cats, that might help too.
