Whine after new timing belt and water pump normal on SC400?
I recently had to replace the water pump in my 1uz as it was leaking very badly. Also it looked as if this had never been done with 240k miles on it. Now after after replacing it and the timing belt there is a noticeable amount of noise coming from the timing belt area. Its a whine similar to a supercharger or bad power steering pump accompanied by some bearing noise. It sounds to me like the timing belt is set too tight, but is this even really possible on the 1uz? It is pretty much set automatically by the tensioner. The timing belt and water pump are oem purchased at the Toyota dealership, new pulleys and tensioner were purchased through rock auto. The car runs fine otherwise. The only real advice I can find is either loosen the timing tensioner (not really doable) or continue to drive it for a few hundred to one thousand miles until the belt stretches and the noise goes away. It seems to me like that would put some unnecessary wear on the pulleys, belt etc. This is my first timing belt change so any advice would be appreciated.

Though its not impossible, I would hope a new toyota part wouldn't be defective. I visually inspected it before installing and saw no apparent problems. Certainly better than the crusty, rusty old pump that was still quiet and working fine other than the gasket leaking. On a side note the oem water pump doesn't have any name cast on it, but it does look nearly identical to the Aisin brand ones. Most likely made for Toyota by Aisin much like many other engine parts.
The power steering reservoir is nice and full and wasn't touched at all while installing new belt/pump. Also the engine fan fluid reservoir is full. While its possible there may be still some small bubbles in that system after being removed and reinstalled it doesn't appear to be making any noise. Using a stethoscope the noise can be pinpointed to waterpump/timing belt area.
