Default Exhaust!

Hey guys! Just wanting to build up an exhaust here. let me know what you think of this idea. 2, five feet long 3in diameter borla exhaust piping connected to the stock headers and what kind of muffler system would you all suggest? I really want to true dual this puppy. So just an idea. Let me know know what you think please! Thanks guys!

I guess the first question is what kind of sound are you going for. Are you looking for a racing, luxury, or just a nice sound to make heads turn. I ended up going 2.5, OBX headers, Flowmasters on the end. When people drive up on me they know that I have fire under the hood, but I'm not super loud either... I like being underestimated... Just a thought. If you're looking for the racing sound, go Apexii mufflers. Piping is great, but honestly, going a 3 inch really wouldn't give you much more HP, just more of a deeper, throatier sound. Magnaflow or Flowmaster otherwise, with stainless steel tips..

Dual 3" is overkill for a 1UZ. Dual 2.5" is fine for N/A applications.

A turbo 1JZ/2JZ is a different story. You could possibly justify a 4" single to dual 3"s if your setup is large enough.

I do really want it to just sound quite nice. I did the BFI and loved it. It's the 1uz engine and really want it sounding fairly mean and true dual. So no to the 3in piping eh?

And I was going to buy the obx headers on ebay but the reviews people said were that people had problems with the end flange connecting them to the cats...

I have a 2001 GS430 modified with OBX headers, eliminated the 3rd cat, installed a Magnaflow Muffler single inlet-duel outlet with 2 1/2 pipe out the rear. I love the sound but would recommend an x-pipe and true duels. Thats my next modification. And note i had a Dyno pull with oem exhaust......... put 227.8 HP to the rear tires and with exhaust mods it put 247.1 to the rear tires. Hot rod Toyota baby.

You will most definitely lose hp and tq with 3" piping. You'll really notice the loss on the bottom end when you try to pull off the line. 2.5" is the max if you want to keep it a dual exhaust.

No, the OBX headers don't bolt up. U will need to modify in order for it to wrk. I heard OBX headers crack under boost, other than than that I think the OBX headers should be fine if ur N/A. I would stick with 2.25in piping on ur exhaust setup, 2.5 might still be a little big.

I only have one opinion but; I have the OBX headers on my 4.3L, its been about 6-8 months, no issues of cracking, and with 2 1/2 pipes I have gained about 20 HP, see my install thread. I commute 150 miles a day at 70 plus MPH and drive stupid hard and there are no issues at all. other than the exhaust and K&N air filter the power train is stock. I also have Gutted the cats and gained a little more HP. Let me know if I can help.
