Default CEL code 71

I got my CEL diagnosed and the guy said that either my intake valves have carbon build up, or I need to get a new EGR. What is the best way to clean the carbon build up that could possibly be in there?

Try using a fuel system cleaner and get on it a bit and see if that helps. Try to go WOT a couple of times, but be careful with the police lol. Or you can go all out and actually take everything apart and use some brushes with a cleaner.
If it ends up being the egr i would personally save money by deleting it and sticking a resister in there to clear the code.
Gumout regane or Seafoam in the gas tank will cut it, both usually found at walmart, autozone, napa, etc. Try not to have a full tank in there or it'll dilute it and wont let it work as hard.

Well, you could check the Exhaust gas recirculation modulator, which sits right before the EGR on a mount. The cap pops of then there is a filter there, it might be clogged. Also when you check that, blow through the vacuum holes if you remove the EGR modulator to get rid of the carbon in there. Otherwise, I'd have to guess that your EGR might need replacing.

Ok I'll try both of those and hopefully it will clear it up a bit. I do not wanna pay 300+ dollars for an EGR.
