What is this rusty part with the chewed up bushing under my car?

Studiogeek - We have a vendor named Aliga that sells these bushings in Poly.

Gazi is awesome. We have actually met face to face. He sold me the parts and physically fixed my first few Sc issues. I am going to see him this week for tail lights. He lives 20 minutes away from me. I feel really lucky for that.
Now if only AliSc3 or MDSC lived up the street too.

Does the whole rusty part need replacement or just the bushing?
Pardon my under car nubeness but I thought my diff was in the rear between my rear wheels. This seems to be near my soon to be cut resonators in this picture. Am I just lost here?
EDIT: I figured it out with diagrams. I was lost, Thanks.

Not much besides replacing the bushings, and if you want to go the extra distance I would get rid of as much surface rust as possible and hit it with a coat of some rust o leum black paint which will slow down the rust alot and make it look nice again.
If you ever find yourself with extra time, you can coat most of the non moving parts under your car and frame which helps the car last longer in areas that see alot of snow/salt.

What do I use to remove the rust?

IF you want to remove the rust...get a hand drill or air drill and a grit circular pad at an autoparts store made my 3M....If you are taking the part off of the car to press in bushings...find a friend with a sand blast cabinet.
Or just get some POR-15 and paint it as it sits. POR (Paint over Rust)

yeah the paints that bond to the rust don't need a whole lot of preparation, you could even do it by hand with a wire brush but its easier to use a drill and an attachment thats abrasive like a wire wheel or sanding tool. the idea is to get the loose stuff on the surface off, and once you paint it it will come out looking nice.
