Default Fuel line broken, Filter temporarily bypassed with HP hose, best options?

Hello,
A mechanic friend offered to change my rusty fuel filter and broke the fuel line. I went to Toyota and Lexus looking for a small piece of the metal piping with the proper thread to fit the fuel filter so he could patch it somehow, but Lexus said we cannot buy a piece, we must buy the entire line. So I could get home, the mechanic temporarily bypassed the filter with a piece of high pressure hose and some hose clamps.
I have gone about 60 miles without the filter (running about trying to find a fix). I am worried about fouling up my injectors etc. so I need a good fix as quickly as possible.

What are my SAFE options in this case? Am i OK for a few more days with the filter bypassed?
I saw one thread about re-flanging the line, but i don't see my mechanic having the patience to read the thread and do it that way (he is old and set in his ways). Are there other good options?

personally i would not worry the fuel pump its self has a filter on it, thats enough modern day cars only run the one on the fuel pump anyways
