Default SC400 Overheating after conversion to 2JZ-GE

Long story short, Im overheating. I had a local dude pull my 255k V8 and leaky transmission and drop in a 160k 2JZ-GE with a good trans. Car drives great now. The day I went to pick it up, I started overheating like crazy a few blocks away. Dude said he didn't change the thermostat, so he did that, picked it up and drove 15-20 miles home perfect.

Since then I drove at max 5 mile round trip to the post office and back a couple times, and all was well. I made an hour long drive into Los Angeles a couple weeks ago, no traffic, no probs. on the way home, stop and go traffic had me overheating almost immediately. I stopped about 3 times at stations along the way home (35 miles at least).

I'd pull in, shut her off and I was boiling crazy every time. I'd let it cool a bit, fill her up and go again.

I never overheated with the 1UZ, and I know I was charged for a sc3 rad in the conversion. Both upper and lower hoses are warm/hot, no leaks, just burning water like crazy?

Car has a really hard time starting up when cold also, figure 20 cranks to wake her up. I was told to check the idle air control valve, but that would just eff up idle (which it does), not overheat.

Think Radiator or water pump sound like the culprit?
