Default fuel control with OBD II

Hermosa

I like your setup. You are doing to your '96 what I want to do to my '96.

One question. Is the SAFC sufficient fuel control for an OBD II car? When I spoke to Toyomoto (over a year ago) they indicated that I should put in $1,500 worth of additional fuel control.

I have a SAFC currently and the OBD II seems to be playing games that reduce the gains from the SAFC

Well, we shall see. My computer might be OBD I since it is out of state and actually made in 1995. If the S-AFC will not handle it then I might buy an OBD I computer.

Default If I'm thinking what you're thinking...

If I'm thinking what you're thinking... then I think you should check if 440 CC injectors is enough. You may want to get 550cc which is the next stage up (I've never heard of injectors inbetween).

I was disappointed when I saw the 440CC injectors too. I was sure I would get 550s. If I had know they would send me 440s I would have told them to spend the extra couple bucks for the upgrade. The difference is negligable especially in comparison to the price of labor to install them.

Hermosa....my guess is they went with the 440 injectors because you will be using the maf for ls400. You would have to go with something like a VPC to control the 550 injectors.

Yeah they sent me the LS400 MAF. I hoped for so much more in the kit. The IS300 Stage II kit comes with all the goodies. If I knew the SC300 kit was so stripped down I wouldn't have gotten it. There is an easy $3000 markup on the SC kit since they drop most of the components inthe IS300 kit. The Stage II SC kit is probably good for around 300RWHP before you have to buy additionial parts. My gripe which still stands is that the kit promises 450RWHP but the kit does not deliver. You have to buy extra equipment to take it there so the kit is not complete.

For the price the Stage II should come with the Haltech, the MSD and larger injectors. Then we are talking about meeting the promises of the kit as well as it being worth the money and wait.

In hindsight I would get:

Exhaust manifold
downpipe
midpipe
headgasket

That's it. Everything else can be custom. They could sell those like hotcakes and even charge $1500 for it.

That said and done when I get everything together I might try to put together a bargain kit (but still quality) since I am starting to understand how everything works. I would only make such a kit if I were sure it was reliable and if I could promise quick delivery.

Hermosa, sup, so after all that, you're still not happy, eh? I'm sorry to hear that, we'll see how you feel after you drive it, but I hope that after all the trouble you are happy in the end.

Hermosa,

Congrats on taking the plunge! I've been thinking about going the Toyomoto route for awhile now. I've haven't done so because I've had the same reservations as you. I hadn't looked at the IS300 kit, so I didn't realize what a difference there was. Why on earth would they do that? Seems like they're just trying to soak the SC owners
I'm leaning towards doing a custom setup. The big snag seems to be getting a decent exhaust manifold. Seems like Toyomoto has that locked up (part of their master plan???).
Please keep us informed. I for one shall be anxiously awaiting your updates!

Best of luck!!

you could get a custom made manifold but it will cost a lot but you do get it made to you specs.

hope the turbo goes over well.

I don't see why a company hasn't copied the toymoto manifold yet. It can't be that hard to make a cast log style manifold.

i've been saying this for a while now but everyone just talked about the "complete" package Toyomoto always delivered

after i get my certs in personal training; i dunno what i'm gonna do; but i sure hope by that time someone has copied the Toyomoto manifold; because its a VERY simple log-style manifold

Question

The pics of the Toyomoto manifolds I've seen were all equal length, tubular works of art! Maybe the have a cheaper (cast) version?

Also, I heard of lot of folks on this forum saying the FMAX manifolds were poorly produced and suffered from cracking?!? Anybody got the DEFINITIVE answer?

Also, does anybody know what FMAX gets for their manifolds?
