Red face Odd passenger window issue

92 SC 400, Passenger window will not raise or lower. When I by pass the passenger window switch (at the plug for the switch). Window will raise and lower perfectly. I disassembled the switch and cleaned connections, reinstalled it and Still did not work. Bought used switch and it still would not work in either direction. Bought another used switch that wasin theory tested on another SC and worked( bought online) . Installed it on my SC and window will only lower....not sure where to go from here....I know there have been tons of threads on the window issues but none that I can find address what I have going on. Any thoughts would be appreciated

The problem must be in the wires. Did you clean the harness connector as well as the switch connector? If the both driver and pass side switches dont operate the window then the circuit is not complete. If it lowers only with the newer switch then the raise button is not giving signal to the motor. Worst come to worse harvest a new harness and see how it goes.

Thanks for the response....Not sure what you mean by harness connector?? but the switch connector is in great shape that is where I bypassed the switch and it worked great.

I meant the connector the wires are attached to and not the connector on the switch itself. I am pretty sure there is something with the wires. Are they firmly tucked that they connect to the switch? There are 5 wires 1 positive, 1 ground, 1 completes the circuit, 1 sends a lower window signal and 1 sends a raise window signal (not in order). My guess would be the wire that completes the circuit is/was loose and the wire that sends signal to raise window is loose/not connected.

Before going through with the wires, take your window motor apart, clean it well, regrease the gears, then check if the window gaskets are dried up and ****, if they are, it can give the 20 year old motor a hard time going up and down.

^ do you have any more info on the gaskets? My pass window is aligned perfectly until it reaches the top 0.25", then one side gets stuck.

Also he said when he bypass the pass switch it works just fine, problem is in the wires.

The wires can only hold so much current. When the gaskets become old it looses that furry-felt-looking-texture that's supposed to let the glass slide easily, then it becomes sticky. Once that happens, there's nothing much the 20 year old weak dirty motor can do. So I say clean up the motor, regrease every gears including the pulleys of the regulator, and try to recondition the weather gaskets. There's a conditioner people use for it I forgot what its called. I'll report back once I remember, lol.

Mine go up and down very very slow when the weather is humid. The weather gaskets even fold inwards with the glass sometimes, lol. But when the weather is fine, it works like new.
