Default Timing Belt Lasted 200,000 Miles Tensioner Fell Off

I bought my 94 SC400 back in 2004 and since then I put 200,000 miles on it and never changed the timing belt. Just thought I would share this info. Unfortunately, I do not know who manufactured the timing belt. And the timing belt probably would have lasted longer if the t-belt tensioner didn't fall off the car while on the highway.

Now I have to figure out how to re-attach the tensioner now that the threads in the block are stripped. In the process of removing everything to replace the t-belt, water pump, oil seals, and anything else I find faulty.

Is it pretty easy/straight forward to replace the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals?

not so experienced with the v8 timing job, but if your threads are stipped your only options are to drill and tap the next size up thread, or maybe some sort of heli-coil application may work.

These belts really do last. When I replaced the t-belt on the 94 SC4 as well, it was original and had 174k and it was just starting to crack.

Wow! That's a lot of miles on a timing belt. Like Ali SC3 mentioned, you can drill and tap for a larger diameter bolt or drill and tap and install a heli coil and use the original bolt size for the tensioner.

the belts only go bad from oil leaking on to them, if the seals dont leak, theyll last a long time

Anyone know how often the manufacturer suggests replacement of the timing belt?

I just bought mine from Autozone when I did my t-belt. What you shouldn't buy from Autozone though is the seals. I replaced the front crank seal from Autozone and it started leaking after a month. I knew I should have sprang the money on the OEM.
