You've waited a long time for an answer! I just changed the coolant on my SC400, and on my car, the petcock was located on the driver's side, on the side of the radiator towards the rear. You need to remove that black plastic shroud to get at it.

It is colored black, like the radiator, but once you grab it with a pair of pliers, the black paint comes off, exposing the nylon underneath.

You're welcome, and glad to hear it went smoothly.

No such luck here- I leaked new coolant from the petcock for 2 days until I noticed it today. I rode my bike to the local dealer and got a new o-ring and that fixed the prob. You could definitely feel more resistance when screwing it in, a good indicator that the new one is tighter.

Is there also a drain tap on the block for coolant on the SC400?

There are other posts that say there are, but I could not easily find them, so I resorted to just draining via the radiator.

Apparently it is on the battery side, above the engine mount, below the exhaust manifold, but I couldn't get at it easily so left it alone. There is also a bolt next to the thermostat housing that should be removed for flushing, I used it for most of the re-filling too as it seems to go very slowly when using the normal overflow tank.
