Default short shifts for 5 speeds?

Hey guys i got a quick question.

I was curious, does anyone make a short shift for the 5 speed SC300? If not what toyota trans is the same? maybe the 5 speed MK3 and MK4 supras?

Ive heard that the MKIII supra 5 speed is the same. im not sure if that is true, but can anybody set me straight cause i want a short shift soon.

gavin,

Where did you get it from and how much it cost?
Also, can you please take some pix and provide a detailed description of your install? This is something I'd really like to get done for my 5spd. Thanks!

If you want to save some money and don't want to deal with short shifters, saw the sucker down... and get those universal shiftknobs like the razo ones.

sc400, yeap that is me, just got my motor in so trying to sell the stock GE motor, 5spd, drive shaft, stock rear end, and the ECU, but no harness(it got chopped up). For anybody that want to convert to 5spd on the sc300 or is300 or go crazy on the gs300, or an extra motor on the side to built, this will be perfect. The motor got 100k complete with all(alternator, starter, power steering, radiator, engine mounts, water pump, intake, header, dis. cap) Asking under $1500 for all. Will separate!

Ok, I installed the TRD short shifter this week. On a 93 (and there about) you can do it without much work. Pop off the center consel, unscrew the ****, 8 bolts and a nice tug upward. On my 95 however, you have to remove the drive shaft, or have some good sockets and eye sight to unscrew a bolt at the bottom of a 95 5-speed (that the 93 doesn't have). This is a SHORT throw. And they mean it. I don't have any pictures yet, but I will tell you this...this is a serious mod. There is about an inch travel from first to second gear, and you dont have all that leverage any more, so you really have to push it around. Like, i am not so sure someone besides me will be able to drive me car....although I am in the process of turboing it...so we wont ever have to worry about anyone else driving it

Hope that helps...if you want I can snap some pictures once everything is done and cleaned up.

thanks gavin,

whoa, sounds like a bigger difference than I had imagined from your description. I've popped off the center console before as well as the ****, i'm not quite sure which 8 bolts and the last bolt at the bottom you are talkin about exactly. a PIX would be very helpful. I really wonder how much diff there is between ur '95 and my '97. Thanks!

When you pop off the center black peices, and unscrew the **** it will slide off and you will see a boot. You take neednose and then pull that boot off and you will see 4 screws. Don't try to use a screw driver, these things are torqued in and you will just strip it. Instead grab a 10mm 6-point socket, and go to work. Once you get that off you will see another smaller boot at the very base of it. Same thing with the needle nose, and 10mm socket. On my 93, after I did that i just pulled up and it came out. On the 95 however, I had to drop the drive shaft out inorder to get a hold that goes through the bottom of the shift kit. I only did the short throw in the 95, but replaced the clutch in both cars (and the needs to come out before taking out the transmission). The TRD looked like it would only work in the 95 and up, but thats just from memory so who knows. I havn't driven the car yet sense I put it in because I had a to wait on a part for the turbo, hopefully within the next week or so I should be good to go and give you first had experience of it and some pics.
