Default Would the timing belt be replaced over 100,000 miles?

Hi CL another quickie.
Unfortunately, the person that owned the SC400 I have right now just threw all of the maintenance records away somewhere so I have no recollection of service performed on the car.
Would the timing belt been replaced by now? The mileage is 149350.

Thanks

Do you take your car to a lexus dealer for service? If you do you can usually pull up the records on the Lexus driver's site.

They say it's 9/10 difficulty wise, but it looks easer than the tranny gasket...now replacing the starter on the SC400 looks difficult.

If the previous owner really took care of the car, yes it should have been done.

On the other hand, I know ALOT of people who sell their cars at just about or after the timing belt need changing whereas they don't spend the money to get it done since theyre selling the car.

You can join Lexus's own ownership program and hope to find records there. CarFax, etc. Fortunately I found everything from Lexus since the first owner only took it to the dealership. Had more records than CarFax. Way more, even if the car just came in to be looked at.

The owner that sold the car to me did not take care of it. The owner before did though...

What was the mileage on the title when you bought it from the guy? Judging by most average joes I know, including myself, They do it at 100K intervals. Regardless of manufacturer specs. Just because Lexus says you need do a change @ every 30K miles dosnt mean its entirely necessary. Thats how they get you to the dealership. Cause most likely, You dont want to mess with it. Preventive maintenance is great, however, I dont want to throw $500 every six months into a vehicle, thats just me.

If you know for a fact the guy BEFORE you had it BEFORE 100K, He probably didnt bother. Belt/Pump/Upper & Lower idler your looking at around $500 in parts. I 2nd the Carfax idea if you dont remember. Atleast you can backtrack from when the 1st owner had it serviced.

The dude that had it before treated it as his garbage receptical if that tells you anything...He put about 10k on it in one year, (he owned it for 1 year) so he got it with around 142k or so, I bought it from him at 148990 or something like that...The guy that had the car before the dude I bought the car from bought a dump load of certified Toyota parts, like the starter, A/C compressor, tune up gaskets, along with more parts. Would the Carfax recall if the timing belt was replaced way back when, even if it wasn't done at Lexus? My guess, yes.

Most Carfax reports ive seen only tell you 3 things..When a title has been registered (new owner), its been in an accident and when work has been preformed at the DEALERSHIP. Some random run down garage could care less about the cars maintenance records, They just hand you a bill with the mileage after install. Its going to cost you a few bucks man, But it will give you some peace of mind. If that other guy went to the trouble to have the STARTER replaced on your SC and buy cert parts, He obviously had money to play with and cared about the maintenance done on it. OR there could have been catastrophic failure that led to that. Chances are if he did all that on a maintenance schedule, that timing belt is new. You wont know until you see it on paper, Hopefully he had the work done at a dealership so its recorded. Goodluck.

Peace of mind never hurts. If the first one was done at the proper time it should be due for another one soon.

This is a weekend job I understand. Since I'm right here anyway, will there be any symptoms if the timing belt is about or will fail? I think I might pay $30 to get a carfax just out of interest...Thanks for the tips!

Have you tried entering your VIN at Lexus.com? I got my service history and found out my Tbelt was replaced in 1999, at around 100k miles. It's at 185k now and it'll just have to wait - too broke to have it done and not talented enough to DIY!

The belt itself looks to be in fine condition so I'm not too worried right now.
