55K miles 97sc300. need FNG help (maint./engine light)
Hey all,
New guy here. (i hope this is posted in the correct area)
Just got a 1997 SC300 black with tan interior.
It has 55,000 (yes, 55) original miles on it. (my grandma's weekend car).
Its super clean with the gold emblems/exhaust tips etc. drives awesome!
So here is where the help part comes in;
I recently and randomly got the engine light coming on. got the code for it (P 0171). I searched threads and ended up tightening the gas cap and also removing the MAF and spraying it with MAF. first question is the MAF can be removed as a whole unit, but the small rectangular cap will not come apart. So I just sprayed the whole unit. There are no screws holding the rectangular cap on. Is this what should have been done or is there a way to remove the rectangular cap?
this forum looks awesome with tons of info and I look forward to learning more!
Update:
Turned out to be gas cap! doh! bought a new one and fixed the problem.
