K&n Intake Kills Gas!!!!
Hey,
Just installed the K&N intake kit and changed my oil from MOBIL ONE with regular MOBIL oil...IM GETTING A UNBELIEVEABLE 280-300 miles to the tank!!!(I think im suppose to be getting around 370-400 to tank) I actually see the gas needle go down...Anyone else has experienced this?? I dont have the box thing(dunno what its called) covering the K&N intake...What does that do anyway...? THINK ITS BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE FROM THE SYNTHEC TO A NON SYNTHEC OIL?? I THINK ITS THE INTAKE MORE..
I think i should go back to stock air box...since I cant afford refueling twice a week...

if you have an sc400 you can get from 350 to 400 per tank.....i have been to 397 on a full tank...and i hit 100mph at least twice a week just for the hell of it.
P.S. i hear that the K&N does suck gas....im gonna leave my air filter at stock...

man you guys are lucky...
On my RX i used to get about 300per tank max ALL HWY! Mixed city i would go 250 and hauling butt... well let's just say it came out to about 9mpg, but i got from Miami to Key west in less than 2 hours... (but it took me a tank and change).
On the Soarer Limited i went from Miami to Gainsville in one tank! That's 5.5 hours of driving doing about 125 all the way!

I regularly get about 390miles on my '98 SC400 on a stock air filter.
Basically, if you install a cone type K&N filter, you are sucking in hot air, which could drastically cause performance and milage problems....
if you're using a drop in replacement (one that goes in the air box) one can only assume its caused by the oil from the filter fowling up on the MAF sensor which also known to happen. If this is the problem, the only way to solve this problem is to replace the MAF - meanwhile I suggest you put the stock air box and see if it helps.
Your choice of motor oil should have no effect on milage.

I have a k&n installed on my 94 sc300 and I just fully ran my tank out of gas today....ended up getting 390miles total. I would say about 300 of them were highway miles @ about 85mph.
Not too bad if you ask me

I just finished reinstalling the stock air box and filter. Hopefully, I will get somewhere in the range of 350. If its less than 275, the intake will go back on.

Thats a killer 26 miles to the gallon if I can still divide correctly.... Man I hope the K&N isnt hurting my gas mileage too much (Ill be sure to keep track of it this week). I just blasted my old intake snorkel out with the Dremel, so I cant really go back to the old airbox unless I cut it.... (which might give me something to do now that watching the Gators puts me to sleep...)...But oh well, whichever way, it keeps me outside
