sc400 spectre 10.5inch intake
i put a 10.5inch spectre filter on my lexus sc400. i noticed it idles higher and it sounds better but i read some other forums and am i really gaining anything because i am recieving hotter air? should i go back to stock or what? i am trying to get the most horsepower for my buck but i need ideas someone throw me a bone and help me out.

People have preached about the hot air for the 20+ years I have been modding cars. I can tell you that every vehicle I have owned in that time has had an open element under the hood with no ill effects at all.
My 94 Stealth TT was one of the fastest ever on stock turbos, especially 9 years ago and with my 300 lb self in the driver's seat. It had a K&N cone way back at the fender well.
My Subaru Legacy GT made over 400 whp and did it with a standard K&N from Autozone, with no fancy airbox of any kind.
Once the car is moving all the extra crap is pointless. It can make a difference while you're not moving but that's about it. "Ram Air" has been proven to be impossible until you reach 70+ mph and that's with a big scoop feeding it. You can equal 99% of the "BFI" by just hinging open the lid on the stock airbox and clipping the filter in place. Did that on a 96 4Runner w/ the TRD supercharger (same airbox we have) and it made a big difference.
Aftermarket kits for $200k Mercedes with 900+ horsepower use naked filters (4 of 'em!) so I think we're ok.
And if you think that was long-winded, you should see me go on when people complain about IC pipe heatsoak!

What intake kit is this? Is the intake pipe aftermarket or did you reuse the stock one?
