SC300 MAF's
So i am new to the SC300 scene, but not to cars. Mostly coming from an Schassis backroung here so bare with me. I picked up a 96SC a few weeks ago and i was going through everything giving it a solid cleaning and after cleaning my engine bay i noticed that i had a black plastic maf housing as apposed to what looks like on everyone elses a white metal or aluminum maf hosuing with the MAF actually bolted to the top where mine is casted into the plastic. Up side or downside to each maf? my best guess was that mine is from OBDII and the other is OBD one version, but i have no idea. This also tossed up the question of when im going NA-T i was looking into using the AEM intake as my cold pipe as it has a spot for the maf to be bolted to the plumbing, can i use the other style maf?

odb2 switched from old style karman vortex maf, to the newer style hotwire maf that everyone is more accustomed to seeing in the auto world. the hotwire like you have will read airflow better in general and can even read boost when used in blowthrough, but the odb2 ecu really does not like to run consistently on an na-t, and is worse to deal with than the odb1 ecu's despite the improvement in maf tech.
96 is one of those odd years that first got odb2, but no vvti so you have the pain of the newer tech, without much of the benefits.
both ge ecu's are pretty horrible on an na-t, I would suggest when you go na-t you should look into the tt ecu mod

maf being larger doesnt mean it can handle more power....im trying to see the specs on it. Ill check it out when i get back my multimeter from my friend.... All im trying to do is use the IS300 on my 97 sc300 without any tuning.... Makes the placement for na-t in better location.

the 7m and the sc400 and sc300 odb1 are all the kvm type.
the is300 should be a pretty close fit for the 97 sc300 one, i would guess they are interchangeable but I haven't seen anyone say it or talk about it, but they are of similar size and both non turbo for the same engine. if it has the same plug I would give it a shot. if it idles and drives right then you will know. as for being larger or smaller, that just means if you install a larger maf you can on some cars bump up your injectors some because there is more volume of air coming through the larger maf at a given reading.
