egr - Code 71....HELP
Hey guys...so I recently picked up a 95 sc300...been having some issues with it.
I have a code 71 which is for EGR malfunction. I searched and read that most people just put block off plates...so I decided to go that route.
I took the egr valve & vacuum modulator out along with temp sensor and pipe...put the block off plates on, placed a 10k ohm - 1/2 watt resistor into the harness, reset ecu and the code 71 still came back on after driving approx 30 miles.....
I am not sure which lines to take off on the throttle body so I left it as is & capped off the 3 ends on the hardline that runs under the y-pipe. I know those hard lines can be taken off which I think ill be doing next but what is the correct way to reroute the lines or which do I cap? and do I NEED to take out the pipe in the intake manifold? or is all what I already did sufficient? I am tired of seeing the CEL light on and need this fixed asap!! its killing my mpg!

If you can cap both end of the egr, then you can remove it completely.

alright thanks, problem has been fixed. The resistor was not in properly, so for a better connection I clipped the harness off the old egr and plugged it into the harness on the car, spliced the ends of the wire and tied the resistor to those 2 wires, electrical taped it and zip tied to the side. No more CEL!
