how much of a difference will the K&N air filter make?
im looking at just buying a replacement one, i know that there are 2 air filters for these cars...

This very much depends on your car.
The SC400 and LS400 engines are the same and have basically the same layout. My 90LS didn't gain any power at all, in fact putting a K&N in took away about 10torque and 7HP.
