Default Close range key fob?

I have 2 laser cut keys for my 92 SC and can only lock/unlock within 2-3 feet of the door. I've tried replacing the batteries but it didn't help. Is this normal? Also, when I lock/unlock it doesn't honk nor flash any lights or anything, is this normal too? Thanks

Well now that I fixed the solder in the key and it locks from practically any distance, how do I get the beep sound? I'm really paranoid walking away and locking but not hearing a confirmation of anything..

The 92-94 SC didn't have a beep sound, just the door lock/unlock unfortunately.

yeah, I discovered this when I swapped my 1jz from a 95 to a 94. The beeper is located in the driver side wheel well behind the fender liner close to the door jam.
