Default Thoughts on stock mufflers?

92 SC400

I did a search, but I stopped at 4 pages in....

I really like the look of the OE muffler/tip setup. I'd rather not mess with it if I can avoid it.

I'm considering having a local exhaust shop do full exhaust from the manifolds to the stock catback.

Any reason not to? I'm making the assumption that the stock mufflers won't be any restriction to worry about. I know I like the sound (however quite it may be) with complete stock exhaust. I'm hoping manifolds, open exhaust (Y-Pipe retained) to stock mufflers will open me up for a bit more power and sound better.

Stock mufflers will be fine. I just threw away a cat back with staright cats and a 10 x pipe to the scrap yard just last week. You could have had it.

I loved the sound of the V8 with no cats, and x pipe, kept the stock resonators and mufflers. Some people like the resonator only delete. Choice is yours. GL

CRAP! That would have been perfect!! Something like that, with the front converters removed, is all I want right now. I've got too much $$$ I need to spend on the Buick to do too much right now. I'm hoping to do headers this fall/winter.

It's all good. Did you prefer the X over the Y?

From the setups I've seen on the SC's and LS', most people seem to prefer the X-pipe over a Y-pipe setup. This just applies to the 1UZ/3UZ guys.

If you had an SC300, a Y-pipe or a single exit exhaust is the route most people take.

That I know. The plan was to remove them.

straight pipe sounds pretty sweet on these cars.

you might want to see how you like it after the stock pipes are cut off.
