are you referring to adding a resonator to a custom exhaust system?

i think he means removing the stock resonator... Id say dont do it... you wont get much better or louder noise and it is more of a rasp killer then a muffling device.

I have a system with one vibrant resonator no cats and its far too loud.. if you wanna change something, either get nice mufflers or delete cat(s)..

I am referring to just removing the resonators but after watching some vids of it I think it's a little too raunchy for me, I am after a nice low throaty exhaust, not so raspy

My car is a 92 SC400. I have straight pipe after the center cat. It sounds identical to an american V8 with flowmasters, even though I have neither resonators nor mufflers.

I did it progressively. First I did a resonator delete and left the stock mufflers. This sounded a little more aggressive but still pretty quiet, unnoticeable on the freeway. Only louder with wide open throttle. NO DRONE WHATSOEVER after just the resonator delete................

Then I did a muffler delete. With no mufflers, and no resonators, it sounds similar to a mustang GT with flowmasters. Significantly louder with wide open throttle, louder when decelerating, minimal drone. It sounds great. Not loud enough to annoy the girlfriend(who loves it), but now it sounds like a musclecar V8.

On a side note, I have a friend with a 92 SC400 also. He did a resonator delete and larger diameter pipes, I think 3" going into dual flowmaster 40 series, same car as mine.

His car with mufflers is signifcantly louder than mine with straight pipes, but most of his volume is at idle. At high RPM or decelerating it's almost identical.

Anecdotally.......... the car feels much more powerful with the straight pipe, but it may be placebo effect.

This was the best modification I have done for the money.

On my 92 SC400, I have gutted cats, resonators completely deleted with Mustang GT500 mufflers...sounds very similar to a Mustang, VERY quiet until you lace into it. Even at highway speeds, it's super quiet. Has a nice throaty grumble to her. Those GT500 mufflers LOOK horrible, but sound good. If they had a nicer tip on them, it would probably be more to my liking. They are just temporary anyway haha.
