Default Need help identifying this part on the 1UZ

The rubber grommet was coming off on this part that appears to be an engine temp sensor perhaps? It was also disconnected and my son reconnected it. Can anyone tell me what this is?

On your dash, there's a low coolant light. That's what that sensor is for, however, if it's not hooked up, it'll think it's full.

I did a search for photos of other SC400 engine setups and it seemed that many of those coolant reservoirs did not have this sensor present on the coolant reservoir. I thought that was unusual, especially now knowing that this is a coolant level sensor. Was this eliminated on later models?

Confused on your pics............ Are you referring to the Large, round seal (plug) on top of the coolant resevior? If so, under that rubber cover is the Coolant level sensor. The grommet (rubber piece) over the sensor itself tends to come off rather commonly. As long as the sensor is still in the overflow container you are fine.

Yes, but I noticed in some images of engine bays I've seen while trying to identify what this was, I noticed some cars had it and others did not. Is this an engine specific item?

The radiator on later years didn't use the plastic reservoir setup.

The part you're asking about is broken on my car and a replacement reservoir costs just as much as a whole radiator from the later years so guess which route I'm taking? Then it'll be all metal *and* a new radiator.

Did they also eliminate the coolant level sensor altogether then?
