Default Engine loud ticking from valve area w/ video

Started about 2 weeks ago. sc300 140K.

Sound is coming from the front (facing the bumper) area of the valve cover on the right side.

Here is a video w/ sound.

Anyone know?

That sounds pretty loud for a valve. Sounds deep. usually when the hydraulic lash adjusters fail they click... tick tick tick tick.

if you are sure it is coming from the upper part of the engine or head area , make sure that your camshaft bolts are not loose, if they are not then probably valve lash/clearances but if you didnt change cams then I dont see why valve lash would be the issue.

Can be piston rings, valve lash or piston pin. Get it checked out.

Pull the accessory belt and run without it to see if its a driven accessory before you go tearing into the engine.

Turns out the cam pulley was loose and rattling. It wore down the steel on the cam so we fitted a steel shim and tapped it in to balance it out.
