Default Example of SAFC tuning dyno sheet:

this is a continuation of this thread, it was moved to the suspension/handling page,... by accident

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=62718

the point of this thread is to show that your feel for the gains is not goin' to give any indication of what the ratio A/F is, and how that ratio can affect HP/Torque.

Hope this helpful to someone.

Nazty, thanks for posting. I am surprised the factory A/F ratio was so lean. The 13.5 or so you are tuned at now should be near optimal under full power. Those mid range power gains should wake up the car and make it a LOT more fun to drive than the peak numbers would suggest.

Good stuff.

Hey, are you interested in meeting up at HRP sometime?

That really pisses me off to see the stock ECU go 16.9 A/F at low rpm/ high throttle position. I suspected that the earlier V-8s went lean and was causing alot of pinging... NO WONDER!!!! Drivability should be 2x better with the A/F where it should be. I that situation, the knock sensors go off, it pulls timing then the whole thing basically bogs until around 4000rpm.

I had a 93 LS400 that would ping and bog until around 3500-4000rpm. Finally got so frustrated that I gave the car up. The dealer never helped. As suspected, this was the real reason. Lexus just didn't want to own up to it. I'd consider this $320 upgrade to be essential for any early SC or LS.

Default clarification:

This dyno graph is from my 96 300Z, which was stated in the other misplaced thread,... but it was to show how much a stock ECU could vary,... and this behaviour documented on this graph, is pretty much common on all tuned cars I've seen come through the shop,...some overly rich, and overly lean at different points of the rpm band. This mod definately made a difference on my Z, and is a definate future addition on my SC400. When I had the wreck, I sold the SAFC towards the wheel/tire project ( shoulda kept it,...my dumb azz ) for the Lex. I am also gonna get the Apex ITC to adjust timing along with the fuel,...which will give even more gains. I thought I had a new motor when I rolled outta the shop the day I got it installed, and as the owner told me,..

"Greg, you don't drive your car at redline, so who cares if you only gain 8hp peak,... you have 20+ in most of what you use."

couldn't been any truer.

I'm like if this is possible with a V6,... a V8 should be greater potential. The stock hp was about 174rwhp,... this is with intake, exhaust, AFC, underdrive pulley, and lightened flywheel. So, I'd say mod's do help,... maybe not as much as claimed,...but I never lost to anything identical with less or no mods.
