To run that shifter setup I'd have to cut a much larger hole in my tunnel I think. That black cover is only like an inch or so from my tunnel, so most of that bracket would be sticking up into the car. Probably wouldn't be a big deal, just would need to make that shifter as short as possible and cut a bigger hole. So far though I think that would be the best feeling setup anyone has figured out thus far.

As far as the speed sensor instead of a gps unit from autometer, why not get a frequency simulator and take your speed signal from one of the abs sensors

My abs sensors are no longer in service, so not an option for me.

But you still have the aluminum toothed wheel and the spot where an abs sensor mounts, if so then you can install an abs sensor back in and use the frequency generated by it at speed with a converter to give your car a speed value

I could, but I'm just going to try the GPS piece I already have. It may lag actual speed by a second, but no big deal I really only am using it to make sure I'm not speeding too much. WOT stuff I don't even look at the speedo.

It seems like only the 2nd gen (05+) 4x4 (maybe 4x2) xterra's had the 350z 6spd trans. still not sure if the 2wd's have it also.

I would think its easier to get a hold of one on used car parts or at a junkyard then fab up something non oem.
I may go around locally and see if I can find one seeing as there are lots of 4x4's around here, but if the 2wd has them also that would be more usefull to pick up for this swap.

I'm 90% certain the 4x2 and 4x4 6-speeds were the same.

Don't all the 6-speed Frontiers have a 350Z tranny as well? I think the common link is the VQ40 bell housing

If so, its actually a VERY easy to find trans in any yard

yeah I think you are right the frontier has them as well. It should not be that hard to find but for the life of me I can't find a picture of one online, there is one on ebay but it doesn't look the same so I think they listed it wrong or something. need to find one in real life.. lol.

I gotcha I didn't catch that you already had the gps unit, I would do the same thing, I hate going a route and then within a couple of months something comes around and I've already spent money on one thing.

Got my car back from paint. Haven't had a chance to install the GPS unit yet, but just wanted to update in here that I've been driving this thing more than my DD for the past week and a half. I have actually gotten used to the shifter, and actually don't mind it anymore. Longer throw than usual but really not that bad. This trans shifts smooth as butter, and I still have the cheap off the shelf oil in it. One of these days I'll drain it and put the Amsoil in it. The increased throw/leverage of the shifter probably helps make it feel so smooth and easy to go into gear.

So anyhow, that's all. The shifter may look wierd and feel wierd at first, but I'm actually starting to like it now.

Also, the SC430 rear end I'm running really complements it too. Crusing at 70mph in 6th gear is at roughly 2200rpm.

I've been lurking this thread for some time now because I'm in the same dilemma with my Nissan 240sx s13 (2jz with cd009 trans). My r154 broke and in favor of rebuilding or v160/161 I'm going with the cd009. It's been swapped in our car with the sr/ka but rarely with the 2j. If so it's in someones race car with a distasteful shifter placement. I want mine as close to stock as possible (I have a convertible so it would irritate me to know my shifter is crooked with my car parked top down)

The 05-08 Xterra/Pathfinder 2wd use the same trans as the 350z. The only difference is the rear tail housing. You will have to swap the rear tail housing with one from a 6sp xterra/pathfinder 2wd. How much shorter will it be is a mystery. I would say in the front/middle of the black cover on the z33 plate.

Here are the parts
http://www.courtesyparts.com/xterra-...4_667_683.html

I'm thinking about dropping the cash and going this route. I don't have any good pick-n-pulls in my area so I will be looking at new parts ( ._.)

I have an extra G35c 6-speed sitting around waiting for a home but have the same dilemma. I just don't know where to get the conversion parts and think it might be cheaper to just ebay a complete Xterra/Frontier 6-speed.

Just unsure about shifter location on SC's....

One could use the xterra/Pathfinder 6sp itself, only thing that would be different is the gearing. I'm not "gearing inclined" but I'm pretty sure with the right rear end you could somewhat make up for it.

I'm going to get prices from my buddy to see how much this is even going to cost.

It has wider ratios compared to the 350Z C00# trannys. A 3.26 rear would be PERFECT for it.

I thought frontiers are 5 speed?..

I did some researching, and the stock 6 speed 350Z's have a 3.54 rear end.. Halon, how does the SC430 feel with the CD009 in the lower gears?
