from my understanding the over flow tank is just the rad cap. if there the right size which they should b there shouldnt b an issue. just make sure that the bracket holes are the same too. and acually i was thinking bout doing the same thing.

Update
Radiators are 90% perfect marches.
Differences I have found
1) One tab on upper LH side is slightly off nothing ziptie couldn't fix
2) It is using a different rad cap .
New --> Stant Radiator Cap Part No. 10242 (16 psi Pressure Rating)
Old --> Stant Radiator Cap Part No. 10227 (13 psi Pressure Rating)
3) upper rad hose pipe on radiator side is slightly smaller but still holds pressure with stock claps.
4) there is an AUX coolant line in lower hose you need to cap it.

Looks like this approach makes much more sense than continually replacing the plastic tank on the older models that's just doomed to crack again.
If I replace the radiator I guess I'll replace the hoses too. After 20 years it wouldn't hurt to have a new radiator anyway.

Right now I have it dump into open. This weekend I’ll go to my local junk yard and see if I can pull one from sc3
Honestly I don't think it’s necessary at this point. Today I was sitting in traffic for an hour, in 89* weather; needle never went above ½
