Im always conflicted when i get a neglected tranny in a used car buy, sometimes i just bite the bullet cross my fingers and flush it but on my first sc300 i wasnt that brave and just slowly cycled all the crap out. putting in a new filter ever 2 or 3 drain and fills.

Safest thing to do is drop the pan, fill accordingly and repeat again in a few weeks. Even though its just a chance you could fck your tranny up by flushing it why take that chance???
This sounds like a good answer I'm just gonna drain, change the filter, and refill to be safe

Don't.

Something like 1/5th of the oil is in the transmission pan, the rest is in the system. You want to flush the whole system out or else you are wasting good fluid diluting it with used fluid.

Here's a guide you can use if you ever decide to flush it or just drain and refill;

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/trans...ransflush.html
http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/trans...anschange.html

Yes, it is from an LS, but we have totally the same tranny and engine. And people have been using this guide for years.

FYI, the reason 90% of people "flush" their transmissions is because they are having problems, then they blame the flush on it. If your car is having issues to where you think changing fluid would magically solve it, you're wrong. Yes, new fluid does have better detergents in it then the old stuff, but it'll still be removing the same junk.

They started sealing transmissions because people were overfilling and blowing out front pump seals, and messing things up internally by not following proper procedures. Fluids have gotten so far advanced they could push it further...that plus having one of those snazy 5k machines to "flush' your car means more money for the dealership to make (to charge you).
