Default Koyo A2062 Radiator for 1996 SC400

Just finished replacing the radiator in my 1996 SC400. I found the part# for the radiator on Koyo's website. It called for a A2062 for years 1996-2000. Purchased it from GO-PART.com for $151 plus tax and shipping ($178). Not being a mechanic I researched how to remove and install a Lexus radiator and used this site for the Koyo radiator. I was surprised to find out all the holes and hose lengths were the same except

1. Radiator overflow canister to Koyo radiator's hose nipple was on the other side of the radiator and was of a different diameter. Therefore subsituted a 2' hose that was inbetween the two different diameters. Had to force it on the radiator over flow (1/2") and hose clamp it down on the radiator's nipple (1/4").

2. Top radiator hose nipple on the Koyo was about 1/4" smaller than the standard radiator. So like on another post on this site I wrapped it with a few turns of rubber tape so the hose fit snug.

3.The Koyo radiator did not have a bracket to attach it to the overflow canister so tywrapped the canister to the closest bolt. I turned the rubber gasket around so the rubber end was flush on the radiator.

4. The Koyo radiator was about 1/4" shorter than the other radiator. So I cut a 3/4" marine fuel hose in half (1/2 diameter) and to the length of the radiator's clamp down channel (approx 2" long). Then snugged the clamp down brackets on each end of the Koyo radiator.

5. Needed a radiator cap for the new radiator. It was the same size as my 2003 Tundra.

That was about it. Not being a mechanic I took my time and double or triple checked everything during deinstall and installation. Only lost a few drops of tranny fluid while removing and reinstalling the hoses. I used a round ink pen the same size as the inside diameter of the tranny hoses with a hose clamp to keep them from leaking. After detaching the fan from the radiator I just pushed it about a 1/2" towards the engine (all it would go) and left it in place without removing any of its hoses. It was a struggle to get the new Koyo radiator's bottom tranny adaptors around the fan's shroud but I finally persevered. This was the only step where another hand would have been helpful. It took me about 6 hours total start to finish. I spent about an hour cleaning up underneath from a leak from the valve cover gaskets I had replaced earlier.

For future references. Model year 1996 uses the koyo A1306 even though all the sellers label the A1306 for 92-95.
