By not "turn over" you mean the starter does not spin or it just won't start? Any computer codes?

Before I changed it I would get a hunting idle after it started, no it just cranks and cranks but won't turn over. We figured out that it is backfiring very badly. I'm thinking this is the ECU but is there anything else it could be? I'm running out of patience with the car. It's been one problem with this swap after another since June. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Just to be clear:

The primary symptom before you started working on the IACV was a hunting idle. By that you probably mean it would vary wildly at idle without any input from you such as pressure on the gas pedal. If it is like mine, it jumped from sputtering near death to a couple thousand rpm making, say, parking an adventure.

Did you have a trouble code associated with this behavior?

You went down the diagnoztic tree and decided to clean or replace the IACV, a perfectly reasonable next step.

After working on the IACV, the car cranks, i.e. it has power to the starter, but it will not start. Based on your description, it cranks and cranks but won't start. Does it sound like it is trying to start? I think it must because you say it seems to be backfiring badly. Did you remove the distributor while working on the IACV? Please put a timing light on it and confirm the base ignition is somewhere close to right.

I do not think this is an ECU problem. If you have no ignition, it might be an EFI relay problem. What is the procedure you followed to work on the IACV?

Im sorry to clarify this is on a 1JZGTE so there is no distributor. We removed then replaced the iacf. That was the only change made between the hunting idle and absolute death. What is the remedy to the efi Relay issue?

Look for the 12v wire around in the Forums. You do not need to keep the bypass if it does not solve your problem.
