Thats a very good observation. I did remove the canister this afternoon, but havent done anything else to it. I am trying to get confirmation on what to do with the lines left open. Do I need to cap them, or run an inline filter and connect the two together. What I mean by connecting the 2 together, is the line that comes from the wheel well connect to the the one that ran into the top of the canister? I have read, where the filter will relieve the gas smell, especially in the summer time. I dont want my car smelling like gas.

Whats the correct way to do this? Anyone? It is a 400!


Secondly on the intake side of the valve cover where the PCV plugs in, where is everyone getting the aluminum connector sticking out like the other side? Or is everyone just welding a 90 degree size -10 line on it? Do you really need the nipple?

I think people are forced to weld a fitting to the intake side VC, and many weld to the turbo side as well so they can get a large ID hose on there. Regarding the canister, I can't say for sure the best way to deal with the lines. That was part of the reason I just decided to keep mine. I hate the idea of fuel vapors floating around in my engine bay, or the car in general.

I don't think a fuel filter will catch vapors like charcoal will, but I have never tried it. There are a bunch of people over on SF who complain of losing fuel to evaporation, and fuel smell in the bay, cabin, and their garages once they ditch the canister.

IMO, I capped the charcoal canister lines and never worried about it again. Im betting those that didn't cap it are the ones that are smelling the vapors

I wasnt sure how a catch can worked until I read this. Actually im still not sure but im about to connect mine soon. I always thought that pressure or blow by was released from the intake cover into the catch can and then released back into the exhaust valve cover but it seems like pressure is released from intake and exhaust into catch can correct?

That is correct. I am running both to a catch can. Some will say you wont need a vacuum to catch/pull the oil into the container and some will say you do. If you need to run a vaccum just conect it with a tap for a vacuum line and run that to the intake tubing. I have also seen it both lines ran to the downpipe. The choice is yours.

ok. I have a Greddy Catch Can that only has two fittings, 1 on each side of the can. I was thinking of putting a third on top and adding a breather. I have seen them on pictures on many set-ups and thought it help. Would it?

It should. The canistor needs to be able to breathe and to be able to breath. Use a size -10 if using braided lines. Look at mine in my signature below.

I would say yes, so it can affectatively breathe correctly. After my install, I see the smoke coming from the oil catch can filter.

Technically the catch can should be connected back to the intake. Itll pull vacuum and if the catch can is baffled correctly should catch almost if not all oil/oil vapors. Ive even seen people stuff brillo pad and steel wool in conjunction with the baffles to further catch all oil particulates.

I recirculated mine back into the intake and so I get no smoke from any breathers. Also, my intercooler pipes are clean as a whistle now, so it is doing its job. My catch can is packed with coarse steel mesh, not steel wool.

personally I wouldn't put anything in the catch can other than baffling as the stuff could degrade and end up back in your engine.

if the catch can is a sealed container it will need a line to go back into the intake, if its got a filter on the top it doesent need to be.

Id rather scavenge the stuff personally but its here nor there. this is my new setup.
