My stock 2JZ would heat up my car like crazy on longer drives. Now I have a nasty exhaust leak on my 1JZ and the cabin stays a bit cooler. I think it's the midpipe.

I'm just waiting on a single exhaust to pop up. I thought it was the w58 but even with a new trans it does it so it has to be the exhaust.

I get the same thing too. I think it's the transmission getting hot. Only does it on really long highway drives in warm weather.

I assume it's just the heat generated from the drivetrain and exhaust routed by the tranny tunnel... If it were a concern to me, I'd install some type of heat shielding underneath the carpeted area inside the car.

also have this issue i plan on getting a better trans cooler but it would have to do with the trans and exhaust sitting close to the floor board, also i do NOT have an exhaust leak and i have the issue so i dont think fixing ur leak is going to fix ur issue

It is perfectly normal, you don't need a trans cooler it is just that the transmission is sitting about a foot under your right arm, and eventually things will heat up. Make sure you still have the rubber insulator around your shifter hole (5 spd), that will help minimize the heat transfer rate.

There was a member who was determined to fix it and they used heat shielding in that console area above the transmission.

I added a transmission cooler because I have an automatic and I want it to last. As for the heat transfer, it appears there is a rubber shield around the shifter that wears out. Replace it and add some exhaust tape above the transmission. Do NOT put it on the transmission. You are trying to reduce heat transfer without changing the cooling characteristics of the tranny design.

I was saying the opposite. WITHOUT a leak I had heat. Now that my exhaust leaks outside the pipe right after the downpipe, the heat issue is gone.
