Default Airbag removal...

I need to remove the airbag so I can swap in my good steering wheel. I thought I saw a thread detailing safe removal of the airbag, but now I can't find it. Is there some special steps I need to follow to make sure it does not deploy when I remove it? I assume I need to disconnect the battery?

TIA

Thanks! Don't I have to wait a certain amount of time after unhooking the battery? I really wish I could find that old thread. There was some other tricks to removing the thing I think...

its pretty simple, just did it today for the first time. Theres two covers on each side of the wheel pop em off, then theres four torx on each side simply unscrew those (which my car is a 92 and it wasn't simple haha , i ended up using a socket wrench setup to break it loose since the screw driver method wasn't enough leverage.
After that unclip the bag and pull it off, then for the steering wheel itself theres a 19mm bolt remove that and yank the wheel off(unclasp the the harness piece first) thats it.

You might need an impact to remove the 19mm bolt or 17mm, cant remember and the use of a steering wheel puller might be deemed required. GL

Thanks. I got everything off and replaced my wheel with no issues Once the nut holding the wheel on was removed, I just grabbed the wheel and pulled it right off.

You got lucky. I was able to remove the 19mm nut but needed the steering wheel puller. I rented one from Autozone and bent the **** out of the bolts so I couldn't return it.
