Take off the timing belt cover and youll see the 2 cam gears. Each gear has a notch in it which should be at the very top lined with the raised portions above them. There is also a marker in the cover above the crank pulley. line up the line on the crank pulley and make sure the dizzy is pointing toward the #1 spark plug location

Are you asking about cam timing or ignition timing? Cam timing you can see just by looking at the marks on the cam gears and crank. Ignition timing must be done with a timing gun and you loosen and adjust the distributor until you get it set to spec.

Then you have to pull the timing belt off and line them up. Set the crank at TDDC and then set bot the cams to their TDC marks and put the belt back on. How far off are they?

Well when you set the crank to the TDC mark where are the cam gears pointing? You may want to take the car to someone if you don't have much experience with timing belt jobs.

All you do is line up the timing marks and make sure when the crank is at TDC then the cams are also at the timing marks just like listed above. I don't want to offend you, but if you don't know how to check if the car is lined up maybe you should take it to a qualified place so you don't cause any more damage by doing things incorrectly.

Default Timing for your 300

If you have the V8, then you'll have to know the setting at the crankshaft. If your off at the cams, you would then you should replace the belt and the markings should be on the new belt. Both cams and the crankshaft are clearly marked. The cams have R and L for right and left respectively, and are viewed as your would from the cockpit. Once that is complete, you can then set the timing at the crankshaft pulley. Hopefully, someone can tell both of us what the timing is and how to check and adjust it, on the V8 in my case, and whichever motor you have in your case. Thanks to any for help and please ask for any other issues, I will try my best to answer.
