Default Has anyone had an SC300 timing belt fail?

I've got a 97 SC300 with the stock 2JZ-GE non-interference engine, and am wondering about the timing belt...

Has anyone here actually had a belt fail?

Has anyone changed the belt and noticed an improvement in performance?

Thanks!

Its more of maintenance than performance. Replace belt before it cost you arm and leg later on.

Your water pump will likely fail before the timing belt...when that happens you might as well swap em both since you have to take the timing belt off to get the water pump off

Just changed the on on our IS. It was the first time at 240+K. What is this Arm and leg your talking about Cartune? A tow bill? Remember no interference means it can fail and still be ok.

Why would you get a performance boost from taking something off and putting something identical in it's place? The belt does the same thing whether it has 5 miles or 255,000. I'd run it till it broke if money is an issue for you and you can't fix it yourself. I personally think doing the timing belt is as easy changing the plugs in a 2jz. (both of which suck, but can be done in equal time IMO). I know for a fact I can change the timing belt in a 1UZ faster than I can change plugs in a 2JZ............I've seen me do it.
