Default assessment from mechanic

Alright guys keep in mind I'm not mechanically inclined whatsoever so me doing this myself would be an impossible stretch.... I just want to see if this assesment of my vehicle looks reasonable ...

Here's what I was sent...

We have looked over your Lexus,here
are the inspection report;

1. Check engine light on. Code P1349(vvt system malfunction) and P1346(vvt range/performance issue) Recommend replace oil control valve and add oil to engine. $310 +tax

2. Valve cover gaskets leaking

3. Engine almost out of oil. No oil registered on dipstick. Oil change due in 1000 miles. May have some oil burninig due to age/mileage.

4. Oil leaking from VVT cam sprocket. See pic. Recommend replace cam sprocket.$629 +tax

5. Was timing belt replaced recently? The leak should be pretty obvious wh

Was this done at your local Lexus or small mechanic shop? I recommend getting at least three estimates on your work performed. I would research more and get the strength to do it yourself, you will learn more and be amazed of how much money you will save in the end. Cars arent that hard to work, maybe somethings to reach and such, but overall its not that bad.

I don't understand why they are recommending a replacement of the "VVT cam sprocket" to fix an oil leak? I'm sure a simple gasket or seal replacement will fix the leak.

That was my thoughts also, unless the oil ran down in it somehow and they think it could have been damaged by the oil????? I still say take it to another shop and get another estimate or DIY.

Is there blue or white smoke coming out of the exhaust on start up and getting on it hard? Is there any appearant oil leaks?

There was definitely a leak at some point. Right underneath engine that floor board area had been somewhat saturated and was starting to fall off. He took some pics so lemme attach those even though I don't see anything in it. You guys would know much more then me..

vvti cam sprokets are known to leak, according to toyota theyre not rebuildable cost about 120 for an aftermarket one, there is some threads i think in the gs forums on how to rebuild them. i personally would have the timing belt replaced as oil does damage the belts when theyre saturated as yours may b. i would also wait on the vvti control valve replacement, because if you have no oil in the car, it cannot work properly as it works with oil pressure and it easily replaced if you still have the problem after everything else is done. the prices dont seem so bad for the repairs. i would just start by fixing the cam sproket, and getting an oil change, after that if u still have the cel on get the sensor and replace it yourself, i think its one or two bolts on that
