Default SC300 spark plug (what are you running)

1994 SC300 2JZGE 131K.

To SC300 owners: I've decided to stick with the Denso Double Platinum plugs vs Iridium. I'm presently running Denso PK20r11 and contemplating switching to the HOTTER Denso PK16r11 the Lexus recommended plug.

I detect a faint smell of gasoline exiting the exhaust during cold start up and idle. I'm concerned about carbon buildup in the TB/EGR as well as gas mileage and emission inspection.

Does anyone have a history of running both the PK20 and the PK16 plugs in a 2JZGE engine and what kind of engine temperature increase can I expect with the switch.

Thanks Pete

I'm running the BKR5EIX-11 Iridium IX right now and it smells like gas just like it did before on the original plugs at 130,000.

I think that fuel smell for the first 3-4 minutes is another issue, mine has it too.

Default Plug change

Switched over to the PK16r11 today. Can't really say I feel any performance differance but I do notice that the smell of gas is gone.

I'll need to give it a while to see if its temporary. The 16 is the hottest plug Denso makes so it should run lean and clean.

The PK20's were definately not firing right the electrodes were sooted up after only a few hours of use. I'm using Seafoam but I woulden't expect to see that so soon!

I bought the Denso's since they were OEM and were in the car when I bought it. The wires/distributer and rotor are also Denso. Since the car was maintained @ Lexus I figured they knew what they were doing so stayed with them...
I've used NGK's before and always been happy with them...next change.

By the way the engine temp was unchanged, no increase at all and thats very good.

Thanks for the replys. Pete
