Default Strange smell under boost/not hitting target boost

I have a 2jzgte swapped car usdm tubos I purchased from someone on this board, so I don't know all the ins and outs. I've been noticing that when under boost the car emits a strange, somewhat sweet smell. And it only happens under boost. Not sure if it's coolant. The car isn't over heating. There's no white or black smoke from the exhaust. I had a leak down test done on the engine not too long ago with no ill results.

And I'm having a hard time seeing 17psi. I have a hallman mbc and when I try to turn it up the more difficult it seems to make boost. Could these two issues be related?

Sweet to me sounds like the red coolant these cars use; have you checked the two nipples on the back of the motor on the pass side that feed coolant through the stock twins? Those hoses are prone to cracking cause they are so close to the exhaust manifold.

You might indeed be seeping coolant from somewhere and the smell comes from the coolant burning off. Check all your hose connections with your hands to see if any of them leave any moisture on your hands.

Could the boost issue be related to my possible coolant problem?

Could be that the cooling system is pressurizing and when that happens the leak gets bigger so you smell it through your vents? Do you notice a loss in coolant?

I have to admit I have not checked the coolant level in this car yet. I'll have to check where the levels are in the morning when everything isn't scalding hot.

I filled the overflow tank to the line with coolant and after a few weeks of driving the bottle is empty again. So there is a coolant leak somewhere. If its at the turbos, do I have to remove the turbos to fix it?

Can you see a physical leak/puddle?

Depends on where the leak is at. To reach the back side of the motor or under the stock twins you might have to remove them. Try and run your hand along the plumbing and see if you can detect it.

The easiest way to find a small leak if it is external is to use a tool to pressurize the coolant system. Dont forget to check your heater core.

Lift up the carpet in your pass foot well & see if you feel any wetness or see any coolant, possibly your heater core.
