biggest difference with twins removed a 2jz has a bigger throttlebody / intake manifold 3" v 2.75", head flows better and more displacement.

if you can afford the 2jz go for it.

thats the problem i dnt think i can but if the parts are interchangeable with the 2jz and i can still make around 400 to 500 hp on stock internals i just might go 1j instead of the king 2j

400 to 500 horse power on stock internals on a 1j is not that hard as long as your pocket is deep enough.

It's not the power that's a problem with the 1jz but the power band. all things being equal 1jz will take longer to spool turbo. inverse to make spool faster the turbo would have to be smaller.

ive seen this post on many sites since when i was a noob (1999) ,
it's a difference in engineering, hence the 1JZ AND 2JZ stamped on the side of the block.
Each engine has a set of turbos engineered for the engine, and the ports and valves, heads, intakes, and on and on.
the comparison cannot be readily made, and there is no definitive answer. (deep pockets can buy you hp)
From the box, the 1j will rev higher, given it has a shorter stroke.
the 2j pushes more torque given the longer stroke/ displacement.
now add turbos and injectors and ecu mapping tailor made to extract more power, but not go over the "gentleman's agreement". And what you have is 2 different apples. Compare a washington apple to a granny smith. both are apples, but taste different.
A better comparison would be 1jz or rb25, but still the same can of worms.
think... 1jz turbos on 2jz? no. they wouldnt work the engine would spool them too fast and they would be useless in the upper rpms.2jz turbos on the 1jz? Too laggy for the 2.5l engine.

The 1JZ is a fabulous engine, if you're going for a big single on an earlier engine you may benefit from a set of cams, the VVTi version has gobs of torque in comparison to the earlier series.
