Starts dies, starts dies...
Hey all,
Am on phone so please forgive grammer. Wife called and said sc400 wtih 135k starts and will run only if she keeps rpms up. As soon as she lets off gss car dies. This happens several times then all of sudden car starts and idles fine. Happens with cold and warm motor. We run only 91 octane. Any ideas would ba appreciated. Will pull codes when home this eve. Thanks.

It's the fuel pump ECU going out on you. I had the same thing happen to me and that's what it was.
Here is a link on how to fix it: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...tures-faq.html

I'd say possibility of being a faulty fuel pump ECU, battery terminals or grounding. If the terminals or grounding doesn't have clean contact it can stall the engine as well. My old Soarer was doing the same and found the battery terminals not making complete contact.

Thanks for the heads-up. A question about this mod. Why would this be an intermittent problem if the FP ECU was the problem? Wouldn't it happen each time the car was started?
Thanks for the link.. Good reading.

Usually the first signs of a faulty fuel pump ECU is not starting with the engine at operating temperature, it may take a few attempts, sometimes it will start then nearly instantly to a few seconds in it will stumble and eventually stall. Bridging the terminals allows the ECU to operate in 12V mode only but is only recommended for testing purposes.
I'd still check all electrical contact points as well, a break in any of the cables could also cause this to happen (in my case the ground cable).
