getting welded!
wednesday im gonna take my diff out and get it welded. never really been thru this process of taking out the diff. so i was wondering if u guys had any tips of wut i need to do, or wut im going to need. im taking it to a shop that is going to weld it for 60 bucks.

If I recall, a 10mm allen socket to remove the axles, a 14mm allen socket to remove the rear differential bolts, and a 15mm or 17mm socket to remove the front.

Can't remember what size what is needed to crack it open.
Installation is reverse of removal. Just make sure to put clean fluid back in.

I'm going to be getting diff work done myself pretty soon, Except for the fact that I'm going with a KAAZ "Super Q treated" 2-way LSD (With a customized locking rate of 70% for the sake of daily driving) I considered welding my diff, But I'm afraid of the axels and it's joints wearing out prematurely...So I just went with the expensive route of just having a 2-way LSD installed.

12 10mm hex bolts for the 2 axles, 6 on each
2 19mm for the front ear mounts
3 12mm hex bolts for the rear mount (you may need to unbolt your swaybar endlinks to swing the sway bar down/up to get a socket in there. probably won't need to if you're just using a giant allen wrench)
3 17mm bolts for the driveshaft. You may need to take out that bracing that goes below the rear driveshaft so that you could drop the diff out and pull it out of the shaft, 4 12mm (i think)
Just make sure you have a jack under and maybe an extra hand. I did it alone, so I jacked it up/down with my leg while i stabilized it on the jack with my arms.
Pretty simple, just would really help to have a helping hand especially to release the e-brake or engage it to gain clearance for all the 10mm axle bolts.
Edit: it may just be easier to disconnect the driveshaft further up, where there're 4 14mm bolts. Just unbolt them and lower the jack, it should pop out.

if the axles don't come off easily use a big fckn hammer. a harbor fright 50$ transmission jack works awesome for installment and removing without falling on face. DO NOT! clean the internals with brake clean if your going to weld! I daily drive my welded diff. parking sucks a little but traction, donuts burnouts and drifting is even better then having an LSD because there's no wait for lockup and breaks loose instantly. I have a spare junkyard diff and axles just incase but a year later and no problems
