Default SC400 manual tranny

Has anyone heard of a auto to manual tranny swap for the SC400?

I heard that they had manual LS400s in japan with the 1uz engine.
I also heard that you might be able to fit the Landcruiser 2uz manual tranny in.
What about the supra 6spd?

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

And don't say buy a sc300 please.

Thanks,

John

I'm researching that one, have been thinking about it since I got the car,but wasn't sure about the performance potential of the engine at that time.
Now I'm pretty happy with the way it's running, and have been looking at the details of installing a T56 from a Camaro($1000),the bellhousing from the SC's auto looks like it could be modified to work after adding a clutch-release pivot, and an adaptor plate to the trans.
The speedo is the only detail I haven't looked at,yet.
The shifter would line up perfectly with the console taken from an SC300.
Would make a car that'd go into the thirteens, and be a very smooth driver.
The Supra six speed is over-priced,wouldn't want Landcruiser gears in a car,but the Japan only parts could be a possibility if that's in fact a reality, and reasonably priced as well.

Keep me posted.
I am very interested.
Couldn't you just use aftermarket guages if you can't figure out how to wire them to the stock guages?
If you do end up doing this conversion could you make a log with pictures so that I can easily duplicate the procedure?

Thanks,

John

Actually there is a shop in Australia make special bellhousing for the 1UZFE engine into T56 and Supra 6 Speed. I am sure it will run about $4-$5K just for the swap. With money anything is possible. Is it worth it?

Default V8 Manual

Well,,First of all you should use a 154 5 Spd from a TT 2JZ-GTE,, If you blokes over there can find a bellhousing from a 2UZ-FE in a Cruiser to use as a sample,Great..The bellhousings made here in Australia are not for the 154 box,,..One is from Dellow Automotive,,the other from Rod Hadfeild (Castlemaine Rod Shop)..I know the dellow one is about $1,600 Aus..so thats cheap for you guy's..I am thinking of doing it as well,,But dont forget you will have to tell the ECU that there is still an Auto in the car..Or get a Mines ECU....Or just straight out aftermarket.....If U use the SC300 box, then you are making it easier for yourself,,All you will have to do is have a bellhousing and flywheel manufactured...I know of a Manual one that has just come over from Japan,,I'm trying to get a look at it..sold here for $27,000 Aus..cheap again for you blokes...That was landed and complied..had a roll cage in it as well..First you will have to find an SC300 Pedal Box assembly and all hardware with it,,clutch hydrolics Etc...So it is not that expensive really..when ya look at it in the long term ????

Not sure if the manual shift Landcruiser ever made it to the states, might be worth searching out from elsewhere if possible. Then you'd be stuck with the pricey Supra six speed though, and I try hard to keep my projects on the cheap, and painful route just to keep things from getting way outa hand.

Anyone have pictures of autos removed from TT Soarers and SC400s? I have heard they are exactly the same.. if so, then the manual TT Soarer R154 should fit the 1UZ?

Also, AFAIK there is no car with a 154 on a 2JZGTE... think you mean 1JZ..

Sorry to be resurrecting an old thread, but Ive heard that the early Soarer 4.0s in japan could come with 5 spd manuals, How much of a performance increase over an automatic SC400 do these cars have? Im guessing something like a little more than half a second in 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

I don't believe any 4.0L SC's ever came with any sort of manual transmission, otherwise, there'd be a whole host of guys who would have done the swap. I don't think one's ever been successfully done with absolute proof backing it up. I believe thats correct, anyone else?
