Default r-12 freon for my sc400?

Hey i have a 92 sc400 and i just did the check for the ac an i pulled the codes 21 an 23 an iv heard that the r-12 freon is very rare to find and highly expencive so i was wondering where i could go to get it recharged with the r-12 in atlanta or where i could buy the conversion to use a different freon? i heard about it in the RSX forum so idk if they make it for our cars or not?
thanks again any help would be greatly appreciated

retrofit kits cheap but you should flush the system because r12 uses mineral oil and r134 uses pag oil... its supposed to mix and eat the orings causing leaks and change the receiver dryer because thats where a good portion of oil will be and also if you have a leak then theres air which means theres moisture which means it wont be as efficient if you dont change the receiver dryer as well.. hope i helped

Here in UK, R12 is illegal & we use a drop in replacement called RS24. http://www.refsols.com/files/RS-24/RS-24-Q&A.pdf

Convert to R134 or try out freeze-12.

correct. if youre cars system was designed for r12 then switching/retrofitting to r134 wont cool as well. it will cool decently when moving but in traffic and at a stop youll be able to tell.

R12 gets cold faster and is colder than R134. But if you are dealing with leaks, it can cost you quite a bit to find out with the refills.

Which is why you use a drop in replacement for R12 rather than R134

If I were you I'd find a local auto air conditioning expert & ask his advice.

R-12 is about 90 bucks a pound and that was about two years ago when I replaced mine. Leaked out in two days. Just change it over, replace the receiver dryer, under the driver side headlight, and recharge with a 5 dollar can versus a 200 dollar charge. No warranty on freon. JMO.

Also, you may get a code 21 if the solar sensor is not in daylight. Code 23 typically means low pressure due to low freon. Can you see anything in the sightglass? Any bubbles or liquid when the compressor is running?
